What relevance does the Bible have to you and me today?

The Bible is a collection of ancient books. A library of 66 books bound in one volume written by 40 different authors, translated from ancient Hebrew and Greek. All of these books contribute to an underlying theme that the Earth is a lost world but it is being rescued by Yahweh, the creator of all things through the mission of his son, Jesus Christ.

The Bible is from another time and culture yet it's theme is timeless and universal. It can be hard to understand and so we meet and study text together - sometimes line by line. But as we go we along we come across the incredible idea that the God above all gods came to earth as a baby, lived among humanity, was betrayed and suffered a terrible death. But then Jesus who is both God and man, rose, alive again, from the grave conquering death. A life of poverty and suffering but infused with divine love for all or us.

The Bible was written for people living thousands of years ago, so to fully understand it we need to be aware of the culture and customs of first century Palestine, However, it teaches us where we come from, our failings as humans and our natural tendency to be selfish and destructive. But the Bible tells us of God's eternal love for us, that he won't leave us, and that we can trust in his plan to save humanity and one day recreate the world that we live in.
